'Tamukeyama' is a weeping red laceleaf Japanese maple. This red weeping tree is very hardy and good vigorous grower too. 'Tamukeyama' leafs out in the early spring with deep shades of burgundy. This red weeping Japanese maple tree is one of the very best for holding its dark red coloration deep into the summer.
The autumn color on Tamukeyama is a bright scarlet red. The characteristic of this Japanese maple is cascading with an umbrella-like shape. This weeping red laceleaf Japanese maple is a very old selection by Kobayashi Nursery of Japan. 'Tamukeyama' has been propagated for over 300 years and has stood the test of time.
'Tamukeyama' is a very cold hardy selection because it is late to leaf out, missing late freezes. This cultivar also grows great in high heat areas and is very sun tolerant. The color and hardiness make ‘Tamukeyama’ a perfect addition that brings timeless beauty to any location.

I bought my 1-gallon tamukeyama maple tree in March 2024. I can’t remember how many leaves it had when I bought it but this now has a lot of leaves, beautiful strong leaves. My order arrived here in San Jose, CA in less than a week. I water my tamukeyama everyday, as the soil tends to dry out too quickly in our dry weather. I love the color of the leaves. The leaves that get hit directly by morning sun has a lighter red color while the rest has a darker red and green color. I love viewing my Japanese maple trees from my dining area. I can’t wait for the tree to grow more branches and stems with a lot of beautiful strong leaves. I look forward to seeing how the leaves change color in autumn. Arrived in perfect shape and has been lovely the moment it came out of the box. I am using it as a patio planted tree and will make a beautiful addition the other Japanese Maples that I have.
