Acer shirasawanum ‘Jordan’ is a superb yellow cultivar that can brighten any garden. This exciting new selection has better color and more vigor than several of its golden predecessors. It was found by Fratelli Gilardelli of Gilardelli Nursery in Italy and was named after his son.
‘Jordan’ may boast the brightest yellow shades of all Japanese maple cultivars in early spring. This bright yellow coloration is often outlined with a light border of red. Autumn colors are amazing shades or deep maroon and orange. ‘Jordan’ is listed as an Acer shirasawanum but may actually be an Acer shirasawanum x palmatum hybrid. This would explain its vigor and heat tolerance. ‘Jordan’ will typically reach 10-12 ft in 15 years. We recommend late day shade for the best colors.
This is certainly a Japanese maple that brings the 'wow' factor for color and texture. We recommend ‘Jordan’ as the perfect tree to contrast deep maroons or to be used as a focal point planting. You may need sunglasses in the early spring for all the bright neon yellow color ‘Jordan’ will shine in your garden.
Trees were potted from large liners to gallons in this spring and may not have completely filled out their pots.

This tree leafs out with teardrop-shaped neon yellow/green leaves that give it an ethereal essence. As the leaves mature, they darken a bit to a standard yellow, open up to their full round form and flatten out. A gorgeous specimen!
Jordan MUST be on your property if you fancy yourself a collector of maples. It’s a classic no brainer for a sun tolerant, vigorous yellow/gold. The spring, summer, and fall colors are wild, and no amount of camera work will ever do it justice. I received one that was at least a couple feet tall, but it doesn’t matter what size you receive because it will be substantial size for you next season. Although it’s sun tolerant, you will definitely want and need afternoon shade for it. It’s likely to bleach and/or burn in prolonged sun, so let Jordan clock out early at lunch time.
