Acer oblongum
Rare Chinese Semi Evergreen Maple

Zones 5-9

This cousin to the trident maple was first noted on an expedition to the Himalayan Mountains in 1824. This rare Chinese Evergreen maple has since been noted that it ranges across western China with diverse climates. It has long leathery and glossy leaves that are beautiful and stand out from other trees from a distance. Because of this distinctive difference, natively in China it is known as the Flying Moth maple. The oblongum in the photo is the large glossy green maple that is tall and on the left side of the photo with elongated leaves. Acer oblongum is vigorous and thrives in the South. At our nursery, this maple is semi-evergreen, eventually turning to bright red to maroon before losing it's leaves in late fall to early winter. Large specimens thrive in Raleigh, NC, and central Texas. In 20 years, this maple can reach up to 20 ft in height. This evergreen maple is of seed source.
