"I'm your huckleberry". Many people know this quote from iconic movie Tombstone, but know nothing about this native fruiting plant that is beginning to make a revival in the landscape and garden. 'Berried Treasure' is a dwarf low-growing shrub also known as Box Huckleberry. The boxwood-like foliage is a glossy dark blue-green and is even evergreen in some areas. 'Berried Treasure' is a great pollinator for butterflies and other beneficial insects. 'Berried Treasure' produces edible berries come after the white to pink bell-shaped flowers bloom. These berries are a darker blue-purple and are quite sweet to taste. The berries on 'Berried Treasure' can be used in a variety of ways including making pancakes, jam, ice cream, juice, candy, muffins, and so much more. Fall color is crimson to scarlet red. 'Berried Treasure' is great for groundcover or walkway plantings, extending the edible landscape to new location. Plantings of two or more 'Berried Treasure' will increase fruit production. 'Berried Treasure' may reach 1 ft in height by 3 ft in width in 10 years.
