'Hóng Lóng' is an exceptional evergreen maple selection, renowned for its striking new growth and vibrant bark. Discovered in the wild by Mark Weathington of the JC Raulston Arboretum, this cultivar stands out with its unique coloration and adaptability.

Seasonal Color Changes

Unlike its species, 'Hóng Lóng' features new growth that emerges in deep maroon-red to purple-red hues, which later mature to green. The tree's bark is a captivating deep purple-red, adding visual interest year-round.

Growth and Maturity

Over a period of 10 years, 'Hóng Lóng' can reach heights of 8-10 feet, making it a manageable size for various garden spaces.

 

 

Care and Maintenance

'Hóng Lóng' thrives best with protection from the hot afternoon sun, as it does not tolerate full sun conditions well. Providing some shade ensures the tree remains healthy and vibrant.

Translation

The name 'Hóng Lóng' translates to “Red Dragon,” aptly reflecting its dramatic and fiery appearance.
