Acer palmatum dissectum 'Brocade' | Cultivar Spotlight
Acer palmatum dissectum 'Brocade'
Zones: 5-9
'Brocade' is a captivating laceleaf Japanese maple with dynamic, season-long color changes. The new growth emerges in a bright orange-red, maturing to a dark red that eventually transitions to a red-green. In the summer, fresh orange-red growth adds vibrant accents, while in the fall, 'Brocade' transforms into a stunning display of bright orange to red hues. Although similar to 'Orangeola' and predating it, 'Brocade' may provide even more intense orange fall colors.
'Brocade' is one of the most heavily cascading laceleafs, with a weeping habit so pronounced that it will creep and crawl across the ground unless staked upwards. This creates a beautiful laceleaf ground cover, reaching 1-1.5 feet in height and up to 6 feet in width within 10 years. For a more dramatic effect, stake 'Brocade' to about 3-4 feet, allowing it to cascade downward and form a carpet at its base. This versatile and striking maple is perfect for adding a touch of elegance and vibrant color to your garden.
