Acer palmatum 'Trompenburg'

The Acer palmatum 'Trompenburg' is a unique upright red Japanese maple with a distinct leaf structure, often considered a hybrid with Acer shirasawanum. Its large leaves curl under, creating a striking hand-like effect that sets it apart from other upright red varieties. In early spring, the leaves display a deep burgundy-red color that remains vibrant throughout the summer, even in full sun. During the fall season, 'Trompenburg' transforms into a stunning scarlet red. This vigorous Japanese maple can grow at a rate of 9 to 10 inches per year and ultimately reach a height of 15-22 ft, showcasing a vase-like shape. Its exceptional appearance adds an exotic touch to any landscape, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a characterful upright red variety.
