First Ghost | Cultivar Spotlight
The 'First Ghost' Japanese maple is the leading and one of the finest varieties in the Ghost series. It features white to cream-colored leaves that emerge in early spring, displaying sharply divided leaf margins and deep green veining on the inside. The leaf's exterior is lined with a red-purple hue. During mid-summer, the reticulated variegation may fade to reveal dark green veining on a lighter green background. For optimal coloration, it is recommended to shelter the plant from the hot afternoon sun. 'First Ghost' has a semi-pendulous growth habit, reaching 10-12 ft in height and width over 15 years. Its fall foliage is a striking golden yellow to orange. This beautiful Japanese maple is a must-have in any garden and thrives in Zones 5 through 9.
