Shishigashira vs. Kurenai Jishi
Often reffered to as the "Red Shishigashira", this dwarf cultivar leafs out in the early spring as a deep red with a brighter new growth on a mid-sized twisted leaf. The leaves on this red lion Japanese Maple are tightly compact and dense around thick stems. As the seasons change to Summer, the leaves will typically be green-red to green. During the Fall, the colors will change between a bright orange to red. On average this cultivar will reach about 4.5' tall by 3' wide within 10 years.
'Shishigashira' is a very unique upright green Japanese Maple cultivar. Consisting of deep green leaves that have a crinkled appearance with compact branching that adds depth to the amazing architectural shape of the tree. The growth habit of 'Shishigashira' is a very dense branching with a widening effect midway up the tree. From early Spring to late Summer, you can expect this cultivar to have deep green foiliage. As Autumn begins, the color changes to a deep yellow-gold with wisps of red and orange.
