Acer palmatum 'Saiho'

For your garden, 'Saiho' is the ultimate bonsai and a perfect choice for a dwarf Japanese maple tree. This stunning tree leafs out in early spring with small chartreuse green leaves that have a bright purple-red border. Its vigorous dwarf habit forms an extremely dense and compact shape that is 5 ft by 4 ft in 15 years. 'Saiho' is great for bonsai as it quickly calipers up to develop a larger trunk, giving the tree a more mature appearance. It has cute little leaves that are among the tiniest of any of the Japanese maples, making it ideal for a bonsai pinching technique used to decrease foliage size. It does well in small spaces, containers, conifer beds, fairy gardens, and rock gardens. This cultivar is ideal for Zones 5 through 9.

*Note for Bonsai - We take pride in our clean side veneer graft that usually becomes unnoticeable in 3-4 years. Our grafted trees are preferred by most bonsai specialists as our grafts remain hidden as the trees mature.
