Acer wuyuanense is a lesser-known maple species native to Wuyuan County in Jiangxi Province, China. The leaves are typically palmate with deep lobes, resembling those of many other maples. In the early spring, Acer wuyuanense is a rich shade of chocolate, where it gets it's common name, "The Chocolate Maple". They display a rich green color during the growing season and can turn vibrant shades of yellow, orange, or red in the fall. This medium-sized tree reaches heights of 12-15 ft in 10 years. Some botanists have recently started calling this species Acer pubinerve. All Acer wuyuanense are grafted onto Acer palmatum.
