Acer miyabei ssp miaotaiense is a rare maple from China that listed as highly vulnerable on the IUCN redlist. This means this plant may eventually reach protected status. Our plants originate from seed from arboretum origin, so we are not effecting native populations.
Acer miyabei ssp miaotaiense forms an upright tree reaching 15 ft in height in 10 years. The green leaves are tri-lobed, turning to a bright yellow in the fall. The grey-brown bark develops corky ridges with age. While this makes an excellent landscape tree, I think this tree would be an interesting extremely rare plant to bonsai.
