‘Chishio’ is a very old cultivar of Japanese maple that is popular for its brighter red spring color. While it is not the common in cultivation today,  it is heavily desired in the bonsai trade. If planted in the ground, it may reach 8-10 ft in height in 10 years. After the spring flush of red, the foliage on ‘Chishio’ turns to a bronze green, then to an olive green. Fall color ranges from orange to red.
