Acer palmatum 'Chitoseyama shidare' Weeping Japanese Maple
Acer palmatum dissectum 'Chitoseyama shidare'
Bright Red Weeping Japanese Maple
Zones 5-9
About 10 years ago, some friends brought 'Chitoseyama shidare' back from Japan. They thought this might be an upright red laceleaf Japanese maple. It is not. "Chitoseyama" is a region in Japan and "shidare" means weeping. After evaluating this tree for a number of years, we have realized this is an amazing tree. 'Chitoseyama shidare' leafs out as a bright cherry red, maturing to a lighter shade of red than the typical deep maroon color of other red laceleaf maples. The cherry red new growth will grab your attention during the summer. Fall color is a bright crimson red. In 10 years 'Chitoseyama shidare' may reach 4 ft in height by 6 ft in width.
