 ‘Katja' is a gorgoeous Japanse maple that leafs out with a beautiful purple-red color in the early spring, maturing to a purple-red border on a green leaf by late spring. The leafs stalks are bright red making a great three tone contrast. Secondary flushes of growth in the summer are purple-red. In the fall, this Japanese maple turns a bright orange. 'Katja' is fairly vigorous maturing to around 12 ft in height. 'Katja' is an introduction by Dick van der Maat of Holland. The name 'Katja' is actually a Dutch female name which means "blessed".
