Acer pseudosieboldianum ssp takesimense

Ulleung-do Island - Great Fall Color Cold Tolerant Japanese Maple

Zones 4-9

Sometimes referred to as Acer takesimense, this species is perhaps the most amazing acer species of them all. It leafs out in the early spring with large rounded green leaves that are fuller and wider than 'Autumn Moon' or 'Golden Full Moon' and other shirasawanum types. These rounded leaves stand out to make this tree highly unique and ornamental. While the leaf itself is attractive, the fall color display of yellows infused with oranges and metallic reds is what makes this selection a "must have". This fall color display typically holds onto the tree for a few more weeks than Acer palmatum and is often more consistent. Grafted onto Acer palmatum it is predicted that this rare maple will reach 12-15 ft in 20 years. Native to Ulleungdo Island between Japan and Korea in the China Sea, this species is in section palmata and is considered one of the most desirable Japanese maples.

Due to the large size of this 1 gallon, it must ship in large boxes 72" boxes. Best to save on shipping by purchasing multiple trees to fit in the same box.

Limited Quantities Available !! As we have over a thousand cultivars of Japanese maples, we often do not have many of each cultivar. We recommend that you buy the Japanese maples you want immediately as we often sell out of certain selections.

Acer Pseudosieboldianum takesimense

This tree is beautiful but it is already 12 feet tall and I have only had it for 3 years. When it came from Mr Maple it was already about 4 feet tall so this is a relatively fast growing tree but it is still pretty narrow. I had it planted by my front corner of the house but moved it to the back where it would have more room to grow. When people come over , this is one tree they want to know the name of and also ask where I got it. It is absolutely the most beautiful tree in my back yard and formed really nicely.
