'Beni maiko' is a great Japanese maple for contrast throughout the seasons. It leafs out in the early spring with that cherry red display that will steal the show in your garden. At this point 'Beni maiko' is one of the brightest cherry reds of any Japanese maple. By early summer, the cherry red has faded to a green-red. In the autumn, 'Beni maiko' turns to a bright fire-engine red lighting up your landscape. 'Beni' translates as red while 'maiko' is an apprentice to a geisha girl in western Japan, giving credit to this Japanese maple's beauty.
