Acer palmatum 'Hinata yama' Japanese Maple
ACER PALMATUM
'HINATA YAMA'
Rare Japanese Maple
Zones 5-9
'Hinata yama' was a tree introduced into the trade in 1923 by Tozuka Momiji En nursery in Japan. It earns its name "sunny mountain" from the first flush of spring, when its leaves emerge in deep crimson with a warm, coppery undertone. As the season progresses into summer, the foliage softens to rich green. Fall color showing a saturated crimson that rivals anything in the landscape.
A member of the amoenum group, 'Hinata yama' carries the broader, deeply lobed leaves characteristic of its lineage. Reaching around 10 feet in 10 years, making it a well-suited specimen for smaller gardens.
Best sited in partial shade, though it can handle some sun. Give it good drainage, keep it protected from harsh winds, and it will reward you with three seasons of genuine color.
