Ruby Red Full Moon Japanese Maple

'Aka omote' is a beautiful full moon Japanese maple. New growth is a gorgeous orange-red over top of dark green. The rounded leaves of this Acer japonicum selection have made some label it as Acer shirasawanum. 'Aka omote' turns to a brilliant ruby red in the fall, which is where some have called it "Ruby Red". 'Aka omote' may reach 12-14 ft in 15 years. Give 'Aka omote' protection from the hot afternoon sun. 'Aka omote' was introduced in Japan in 1988.

Aka omote

I just received Acer japonicum 'Aka omote' today and and very impressed. It is one gallon and at least 2 ft tall with good growth and roots. I love the round leaves and the texture is very interesting. I plan on keeping it in a larger pot until the fall and then will decide if I should put it in the ground. We have hungry deer so I need to be careful with young plants.

She is a must have!

I’ve had this tree over a year now in zone 6b/7a in the NE corner of Oklahoma where both summers and winters get brutal. The foliage on this tree is gorgeous in spring all the way to the first freeze. This is truly a fantastic tree that puts out amazing unusual color with every leaf different. She holds her branches beautifully giving her an overall lovely look of grace and beauty. Definitely elated she’s in my yard!
