Great Fall Color - Cold Tolerant Japanese Maple

Zones 4-9

Acer sieboldianum 'Sode-no-uchi' is an extremely cold tolerant Japanese maple that has some of the smallest green foliage of any Acer sieboldianum. 'Sode-no-uchi' is listed in J.D. Vertrees book as Acer sieboldianum, while it is listed as a selection of Acer tenuifolium in Yano's Book For Maples. In autumn, 'Sode no uchi' turns to  bright yellows that become infused with orange and red.  'Sode-no-uchi' may reach 10-12 ft in 15 years. 'Sode-no-uchi' is extremely popular in Japan as a container plant or as a bonsai because of its tight dense habit with little pruning or shaping.
