Sciadopitys verticillata 'Golden Parasol'

Rare Dwarf Japanese Umbrella Pine Tree

Zones 5-7

Sciadopitys verticillata ‘Golden Parasol’ is a rare and striking cultivar of the Japanese Umbrella Pine, prized for its bright golden-yellow needles that stand out against the glossy green tones typical of the species. New growth emerges in a brilliant golden hue, holding its color well through the growing season before softening into rich green in winter. Like all umbrella pines, the needles are arranged in distinctive whorls, creating the classic “umbrella” look but with a bold splash of color. This slow-growing, upright conifer develops into a narrow, conical form, making it both a specimen and a conversation piece in the garden. After 10 years, ‘Golden Parasol’ typically reaches 6–8 ft tall and 3–4 feet wide, eventually maturing into a medium-sized tree. Best grown in USDA Zones 5–7, it thrives in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil and does best in full sun to partial shade, where the golden foliage shows its brightest tones without risk of scorching.
