Sciadopitys verticillata ‘Propeller’ is a rare and unique selection of the Japanese Umbrella Pine, an ancient conifer prized for its distinctive, glossy green needles. Unlike the straight, radial arrangement typical of the species, ‘Propeller’ is noted for its unusually twisted or rotated needles that resemble the blades of a propeller, giving it a very ornamental and eye-catching texture. This slow-growing evergreen has a dense, upright habit and maintains a rich, year-round green color. Like the species, it prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil and grows best in full sun to partial shade. At 10 years, ‘Propeller’ typically reaches about 5–6 ft tall and 3–4 ft wide, eventually maturing into a stately small tree with strong architectural presence in the landscape.
