Acer palmatum 'Seiun kaku'

Rare Grafted Dwarf Japanese Maple Tree

Zones 5-9

'Seiun kaku' has a tightly layering habit, which makes the leaves look like shingles on a roof. This appearance makes 'Seiun kaku' look like a more vigorous form of 'Mikawa yatsubusa'. The chartreuse green foliage in the spring turns to a darker green by the summer. Fall color on 'Seiun kaku' is a bright fiery red. In a container, 'Seiun kaku' is a small slower growing dwarf, while in the ground, 'Seiun kaku' may reach 8-10 ft in 15 years.

'Seiun kaku' is a newly imported maple from Japan, which made its way to the USA around 2008, 'Seiun kaku' is a selection from the Kansai district in Japan that was introduced in 1974. According to the 4th edition of Japanese maples, 'Seiun kaku' translates as "blue-green palace in the clouds".

Limited Quantities Available !! As we have over a thousand cultivars of Japanese maples, we often do not have many of each cultivar. We recommend that you buy the Japanese maples you want immediately as we often sell out of certain selections.

“Hustler Yatsabusa”

This one is off the charts and can’t be explained with words, but I’ll try. Sun tolerant…super check. Vigorous….very Check. Interesting… SO check. Color… mostly check. I have mine in the fullest of southwest suns. I bought it because i didn’t know what else to buy that week, and I needed to fill a shipping box. It’s now one of my absolute favorites. Although the almost bright yellow/chartreuse new growth pops nicely off the dark green older growth, it’s not really about the color for this one. It’s about the irregular, semi pendulous, sprawling growth/shape. It looks like a giant granddaddy long legs out there that could crawl away. All it needs is hands or claws (see claw of the dragon) and it might just get up and leave one day. Same as the claw, I’ve learned to love the maples with less flashy colors and more unique shapes and structures. The leaves curl downward slightly, as well. Similar to a Peve Starfish, but not quite as pronounced or significant. Also, it looks like a huge mikawa… so that’s a bonus check.

Gorgeous and bigger than o yhought

Received this plant in excellent shape, and so so much bigger than I thought. Not a leave fell off or any damage in shipping . Can’t wait to see it planted and growing well and red in the fall! Thank you for the great plant and service. I will be ordering from here again!
