Ulmus alata 'Lace Parasol' is a weeping winged elm that is quite spectacular. The spreading and weeping habit is different than other winged elm selections. This winged and corky appearance provides a dynamic winter interest. 'Lace Parasol' was found in the woods by Dr. Charles Keith and given to the JC Raulston Arboretum in 1992 as a 40 year old specimen. At this time, 'Lace Parasol' was 8 ft in height and 12 ft wide. The JCRA introduced this selection into the nursery trade and it has been a popular item ever since.
