'Red Candy’ is one of the best Lingonberry ever made. It has a tight compact habit yet grows vigorously to its size of 1 ft in height and 1.5 ft in width in 10 years.  This makes ‘Red Candy’ and excellent patio container plant. The glossy green leaves are evergreen and give good year-round interest. ‘Red Candy’ is a prolific bloomer with small white flowers in the early spring. The flowers then turn to these beautiful red berries that that give this Lingonberry its name of ‘Red Candy’.  The berries cover this small shrub creating an edible landscape you can enjoy. A small plant can produce a lot of berries. These berries are rich in Vitamin C. ‘Red Candy’ is a ligonberry, also known as Cowbush berry. The berries are commonly used in Sweden for pies, jams, and other fruit filled treats. The berry themselves are fairly tart but are often used with sugar to create a unique and desirable flavor. We recommend giving ‘Red Candy’ plenty of drainage and a humus-rich soil. While lingonberry can handle a good amount of sun, they are naturally an understory plant, making them a great fruit bearing addition to partial shade to full sun locations.
