Acer palmatum 'Ogi tsuma gaki'

Rare Red Fingernail Ogi tsuma gaki Japanese Maple

Zones 5-9

Introduced in Japan in 1995 by Hisao Nakajima, 'Ogi tsuma gaki' has now made its way to the United States. 'Ogi tsuma gaki' leafs out in the spring with chartreuse green leaves with a thick purple border.  Fall color ranges from yellow to orange. 'Ogi tsuma gaki' may reach 6-8 ft in 10 years. "Ogi" is Japanese for fan, describing the more round habit of the leaves than the typical 'Tsuma gaki'. "Tsuma gaki" means "red fingernails" describing the spring coloration. For more information on this cultivar check out Masayoshi Yano's, Book For Maples.
