Pinus sylvestris 'Green Penguin'
Rare Dwarf "Green Penguin" Scots Pine Tree

Zones 3-8b

This conifer is quickly becoming one of our favorite little trees at our nursery. 'Green Penguin' has a small narrow stature that makes it look like a little bright green penguin standing there in your garden. How fun is that! This is surely a tree that women, children, and everyone will love in the landscape.

Found by Jim Lewis of J Farms, this little dwarf scots pine retains bright green new growth color year-round. The tight dense habit reaches 4 ft in height by 2 ft wide in 10 years at an average growth rate of 2-4 inches per year. While 'Green Penguin' is slow growing, it is very hardy. J Farms boasts that this little dwarf has out-performed many other trees in cold zones such as Duluth, MN. It also can do well in Zone 8, which makes this tree excellent for most gardens across the United States.

Great little tree 🌲!

Even though the box says “live plants”, Fed X does not handle with kid gloves! Glad that the box is sturdy, and my 2 little trees were OK in spite of the soil spillage. I love my trees, and will be buying more dwarf conifer varieties when they are back in stock.

Grows faster than you'd think

I bought a one gallon penguin, and in 3 years it has doubled in size. It can take afternoon shade and still grow well. Very durable and extremely cute shape. You can plant perennials around it with no root competition, and then in winter still have a lovely evergreen. This is one of the best conifers sold by Mr. Maple.

Cute baby

Fits nicely in a small space for now and will continue into the future. Has an excellent cool-green color and spikey habit, pushing out some slight growth after less than a month. Definitely complements the other Japanese-style plantings. Should be fun to watch as it matures.

Cutie

Can’t wait for him to get his mature form, but for now he’s an adorable, healthy little fluffball. Packing was great. No damage.
