'Burgundy Jewel' leafs out in the early spring as a deep and full maroon red on a large rounded circinatum leaf. It holds this color well throughout the summer, creating a dynamic contrast from the Acer circinatum species. ‘Burgundy Jewel’ was found by Gordy Hallgren at Peacedale Nursery in Washington as a chance seedling. Gordy named this precious circinatum selection for this burgundy coloration that matches that of deep burgundy wine. The trick for this red circinatum is to give it sunlight. It requires at least morning sun to full sun. It will reach 6-7 ft in a dense multi-stemmed manner in 10 years. In the autumn, 'Burgundy Jewel' will turn from intense oranges to bright crimsons to deep full maroon reds.
