Acer palmatum 'Pung Kil'
Rare Pung kil Japanese Maple

Zones 5-9

This Korean introduction of a Japanese maple has one of the darkest foliage of the wind swept Japanese maples. We love how these thin red strap leaves flow in the wind. In the early spring, 'Pung Kil' leafs out as a deep red, which holds fairly well throughout most of the summer. Fall colors are bright oranges to crimson reds. 'Pung kil' is a slow grower reaching about 6-7 ft in 10 years. 'Pung kil' is an ideal red linearilobum Japanese maple for any yard because of its ability to hold its color well and because of the slow growth rate. Named after Mr. Pung Kil of Chollipo Arboretum in South Korea.

Limited Quantities Available !! As we have over a thousand cultivars of Japanese maples, we often do not have many of each cultivar. We recommend that you buy the Japanese maples you want immediately as we often sell out of certain selections.

“Best of Show” in the linearilobum category

Zone 8A Atlanta. Part sun in a container.
This hardy plant is next level. Colors change throughout the year from a duotone purple and burgundy into an H.R. Giger metallic blue. Seriously, in late summer it starts to look like a razor sharp metal sculpture. This one is exotic and as an addicted plant collector, my absolute favorite tree. No, my favorite plant! I may like it better than my three dogs. Not as much as my daughter but we’ll see, she just became a teenager.
