Acer palmatum ‘Ryusen’ is an exciting new pendulous Japanese maple with palmate foliage and an amazing shape. A recent introduction from Kobayashi Nursery in Japan, this small, elegant tree adds a unique form with an exotic appeal to the landscape. This weeping Japanese maple was originally named 'Ryu sei', which translates as "dragon spirit". In early spring, ‘Ryusen’ displays bright shades of chartreuse green. The beautiful chartreuse green new growth accents older growth with smooth dark green foliage throughout the summer months. An amazing fall color change highlights this weeping maple form. The ‘Ryusen’ Japanese maple has autumn leaves that reach shades of bright reds to deep oranges.

This Ryusen arrived in great shape and was much larger that I had anticipated. It seems to tolerate our sun (it was 98 degrees today), with a little shade from my pergola. I placed cedar chips at the base to keep the tree moist. I would recommend this choice.
This Ryusen Japanese maple is such a beauty! I have it in a big container, hiding my pool pump equipment and it’s finally starting to weep over the sides and sway in the wind. It looks amazing, especially in the fall when the leaves change color. It’s a tough little tree too — really easy to take care of. I love it and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a cool, low-maintenance plant.

I have been working with Japanese Maples for many years. I started with creating beautiful Bonsai, and relented to planting them in the ground, to give them girth. I currently have 7 trees in my yard and I love how they look, as I shape them in various ways. I purchased Ryusen, along with many other's and am currently acclimating them to there forever home, throughout my 2 gardens. I will be using this company, for years to come.
