'Black Hole' is a brand new introduction by Talon Buchholz that was found as a chance seedling from 'Purple Ghost'. The foliage is much darker than its parent, with the ghost-like reticulation showing for a short time in the spring. The is one of the darkest purple black maples to date. This makes a great compliment to a tree like 'Summer Gold' or 'Michael Steinhardt' that displays bright yellow foliage. The contrast between the two colors is quite breathtaking. 'Black Hole' turns to a fuchsia red in the fall. We expect 'Black Hole' to reach 10-12 ft in 10 years.
