Acer palmatum 'Saiho'

Rare Saiho Dwarf Japanese Maple Tree

Zones 5-9

Excellent for Bonsai

'Saiho' is the ultimate bonsai and a perfect dwarf Japanese maple tree for your garden. This Japanese maple leafs out in the early spring with small chartreuse green leaves outlined with a bright purple red border. The habit of this vigorous dwarf is extremely dense forming an upright compact and dense shape that is 5 ft by 4 ft in 15 years.

This tree is quick to caliper up (get a larger trunk), which makes it great for bonsai. This larger trunk gives an older and more mature appearance to a dwarf tree in the landscape. Secondary growth in the summer has cute little leaves that are some of tiniest of any of the Japanese maples. These small leaves are ideal for a bonsai pinching technique used to decrease the size of the foliage. 'Saiho' is ideal for small spaces in the garden, containers, bonsai, conifer beds, fairy gardens, and rock gardens.

*Note for Bonsai - We pride ourselves on a clean side veneer graft that typically becomes not noticeable in 3-4 years. Our grafted trees are preferred by most bonsai specialists because of how our grafts are hidden as the trees mature.

Limited Quantities Available !! As we have over a thousand cultivars of Japanese maples, we often do not have many of each cultivar. We recommend that you buy the Japanese maples you want immediately as we often sell out of certain selections.

Very interesting Shrub Maple!

ON THE RIGHT :) This maple was very interesting to me. I love how tiny and just exotic this one looks. With tiny leaves and a vast amount of vegetation it looks great!

Fills in nicely between larger maples in my garden

Goodness Gracious Great Balls of Bonsai?

This is a great tiny tree. It's definitely dense and those leaves are the smallest In my collection with Tsukasa Dwarf having very small leaves as well. I am still trying to grow it vigorously, but the leaves during second flush are soooo small. I can't wait until it's time to put it in a fancy pot and showcase this beautiful tree!
