'Katsura’ is one of the first trees to leaf out in the early spring. It blasts out of the gates with beautiful shades of orange and yellow. ’Katsura’ is a very vigorous grower and can reach up to 15 ft in height in 15 years. The midsummer color is green and transforms into deep orange to red in the fall. Known as "a wig" in Japanese, it thrives in sunny to partially shaded environments.

A leggy juggernaut

This thing leafs out early, so be extra vigilant with protecting from frost. Gorgeous neon yellow outlined by red characterizes new growth on this cultivar. Once the new growth matures, it turns a deeper but bright green that contrasts well with then newer growth which will repeatedly push until summer. Very hardy and interesting. I staked some of my floppier branching to not block dumb on the branches of adjacent trees- with no adverse effect so far. A great specimen that’s relatively easy to maintain.
