'Gable's Glory' is perhaps one of the most striking Japanese maples in the nursery trade today. The spring color can range from a pink-red to a bright cherry red. As this chameleon-like selection's leaves mature, they mature to a glowing orange-yellow. This glowing color is quite striking and makes for a very colorful summer color. New growth during the summer is a bright pink-red to cherry red. We received this selection years ago from Del Loucks, who stated this colorful Japanese maple was found by Larry Gable. Give 'Gable's Glory' morning sun, with a little protection from the hot afternoon sun for best color. We expect 'Gable's Glory to reach 10-12 ft in height in 15 years. Make sure to get one before we sell out.

I Gables glory is a wild ride of colors throughout the year. Fairly sun tolerant once established but I get a wider range of colors and with about a half a day of sun (the first half). You can still get good colors and full sun but you won’t get all the in between’s and the subtle transitions. I usually comes out red to maroon and then turns a bright chartreuse to almost yellow. Then in the summer, this tree will seem to do a somersault, and all of the sudden you will have bright chartreuse green/yellow at the base with bright red/burgundy/maroon on top from the new flushes of growth. As far as I know, this is a very uncommon color combination. Most cultivars flush with bright yellows and corals, and then mature to a burgundy or bronze red/green. Therefore, it is far more common to have a darker base with the lighter brighter colors coming off the top new growth. It’s an inverted color dream that you will not want to wake up from.

Gables glory! What a maple

I have seen pictures of this maple but that doesn’t do this maple justice. It’s called the chameleon maple for good reason. Throwing off all kinds of crazy colors from spring thru summer. Man I can’t wait to watch this maple grow in the garden!! Thank you MrMaple!
