Acer palmatum 'Summer Gold'

Golden Yellow - Heat Tolerant Japanese Maple

Zones 5-9

'Summer Gold' leafs out as bright chartreuse to yellow green with a red border. The leaf on 'Summer Gold' brightens to gold as the summer progresses providing a dynamic contrast with both red and green maples. This may be one the most heat tolerant selections of the golden leaf types as this maple does not show any burn when grown in full sun in the mountains of North Carolina.

Fall color is a deep bright orange to fiery red. This Italian selection by Ghiradelli Nursery is a summer delight in the garden. 'Summer Gold' will reach 6-8 ft in 10 years making it the perfect mid-sized golden tree for your garden or landscape.

Limited Quantities Available !! As we have over a thousand cultivars of Japanese maples, we often do not have many of each cultivar. We recommend that you buy the Japanese maples you want immediately as we often sell out of certain selections.

Ordered all 4 of these in October 2021. I can only post 5 pics, so here they are during the 2024 season, with my favorite of the four (for this year) shown in its spring & fall color. I was new w gardening altogether. I made a lot of bad decisions & mistakes at first, (still do, sadly) and i'm impressed and SO grateful I started-off with Summer Gold. Every summer since I bought these have been a dusty droughty summer w uninterrupted beaming sun and they survived. On top of the weather, the one in the brown container was repeatedly the subject of my ignorance, but was very forgiving and deserves a medal. I planted it in a terrible spot (at the crest of a dry, open, south-facing slope) where she stayed for a little over a year when I finally realized she was not acclimating to that spot (a spot not fit for a cactus). I dug her out & put her back into a POT in September, POSITIVE that I killed her, but I didn't give up on her & she actually surprised me, and came back this spring.. healthy with very little set-back. They are generous with seeds and I look forward to seeing them continue to grow and evolve.
