'Hoshi zora' leafs out in the early spring as a bright green with small to medium-sized palmate leaves. The habit is extremely weeping and cascading. We recommend staking this selection up and allowing it to cascade from a higher point. 'Hoshi zora' is one of the newest selections of Japanese maples from the famed Kobayashi Momi En in Japan. 'Hoshi zora' was found as a chance seedling from 'Ryusen' and is said to have a brighter fall color than its parent. 'Hoshi zora' was given to us on one of our recent trips to Japan by the Kobayashi Family. This is its first ever availability in the United States. The name 'Hoshi zora' translates as "starry sky".

What an amazing cultivar. It holds its leaves longer than Ryusen. It is a strong healthy plant. She's a real gem!
