'Ukigumo' is a gorgeous upright Japanese maple. Once out of every two or three years, 'Ukigumo' leafs out with spectacular white variegation that covers the leaf. This variegation is environmental and is conditional year to year. Protection from the hot afternoon sun helps a lot with retaining the variegation for the longest amount of time throughout the growing season. One great thing about this maple, it always has a bright golden yellow to orange fall color.

Received the tree yesterday. It is green with the new growth a medium pink. Very healthy with good roots. I watched the video on how to get the whit color in the upcoming years and look forward to the great leaf display.

I have had Ukigumo for a few years and it finally went white! It has been a fantastic tree for me with light green leaves and great fall color. This year when it finally went white! Oh my goodness! Went from a fantastic tree in my collection to #1! Light it up!
This perfectly packaged and very healthy tree was (and is) simply gorgeous right out of the box. The leaves were mostly very pale in color with a lot of green "dots" on them. I'm taking that as a very good sign! I am very remiss in taking so long to write a review on this, but this should not reflect on the tree's quality or beauty - just my lack of organization when I bought it. However since I got it in September 2022 this gives me almost two years with the Ukigumo to comment on. It is growing much faster than expected and I am expecting that the heavy shade it is in will be resulting in white foliage. It remains a very healthy plant and it is pleasingly shaped. I find MrMaple trees to be the best out there so I am not surprised at all!
