Acer sieboldianum 'Kumoi nishiki'

Variegated - Cold Tolerant Full Moon Japanese Maple

Zones 4-9

Acer sieboldianum 'Kumoi nishiki' is a stable, variegated full moon Japanese maple. In the spring, the leaves pop out with white variegation that is extraordinary. The white sand dust variegation pops over the light green to dark green leaves. Fall color can range from yellow to orange. When I was in Japan in 2015, Kobayashi Momiji En was growing this plant and brought it out to show me in a small pot that was covered in moss. They had it under the name 'Asagi nishiki' which they agreed was the same as 'Kumoi nishiki'. 'Kumoi nishiki' is extremely cold tolerant and typically has a nice mature form reaching 8 -10 ft in 15 years. I do recommend protection from the hot afternoon sun for this beauty to get established and thrive for you in your garden.

This plant is gorgeous!

It's small and sensitive at first - but so very unique. Keep in a pot until you get just the right sunlight exposure, if you have high summer heat. Mine burned pretty easily in zone 7B. Leaves have a beautiful snow dusting. Also so very unique with its jagged ruffles and will compliment palmatum or japonicum shapes - or maybe place near a purple chinese fringe flower or dark evergreen rhododendron.

Sturdy Variegated Sieboldianum

This is a sturdy variegated seiboldianum that is absolutely gorgeous. The leaves are on the larger side of medium and perfect for this tree. This just has to be my favorite variegated seiboldianum. Thanks again for another great maple.
