Kelly Strickland was a pioneer when it came to native azaleas. His family owned land on the Chipola River in Western Florida. He made many selections throughout the years on his quest to find the best nativess. ‘Chipola River’ is one of the best heat and humidity tolerant  golden yellow-orange Rhododendron austrinums. This makes it an excellent native selection for many southern gardens. ‘Chipola River’ may reach 6 ft in height by 4 ft in width I n 10 years. Make sure to give ‘Chipola River’ good drainage and highly organic acidic soil for the best establishment, growth rate, and blooms.
