'Texas Scarlet' is a dwarf hybrid between Chaenomeles japonica and Chaenomeles speciosa with small compact habit. It leafs out with bright green glossy leaves in the early spring followed by large tomato red clusters of blooms that are a site to see in the garden. This selection reaches 3 ft in height at maturity by 3 ft in width. As the season progresses, this selection gets green quinces that ripen to bright golden yellow providing more interest. This selection prefers partial to full sun.
