Magnolia 'Gold Star' is quite the star in the magnolia world. It won a Royal Horticultural Award for Garden Merit in 2012. It originated as a hybrid between Magnolia acuminata, a yellow flowering magnolia, and Magnolia stellata, the star shaped magnolia. It gets the best of both worlds. The bright yellow star-shapped blossoms on this deciduous magnolia shine in the early spring garden, turning more creamy yellow as the bloom ages. Each blossom is scented and can reach up to 4 inches in size. Magnolia 'Gold Star' may reach 8 ft in height by 5 ft in width in 10 years.
