Fagus sylvatica 'Albomarginata' Dwarf Copper Beech
Fagus sylvatica 'Albomarginata'
Rare Dwarf Copper Beech Tree
Zones 5a-8b
'Albomarginata' is a rare sight, distinguished by its irregularly white-margined leaves, a unique feature setting it apart from the species. While sharing the same habit as the species, it grows at a slower pace. The bark, soft and grey, is susceptible to damage when exposed to direct sunlight. Its leaves, slightly smaller than those of the species, measure around 4-8 cm and feature curved margins. During hot and sunny periods, the foliage may suffer from scorching.
'Albomarginata' displays a yellow-brown autumn color and bears inconspicuous inflorescences. Nuts emerge in autumn. As a solitary park tree, it has shallow roots, limiting the growth of undergrowth. Expect a height of 10-12 ft within 10 years of growth.
