It was named for Richard Hartlage who made the cross in 1991 at the JC Raulston Arboretum. It has large, abundant burgundy flowers during late spring into summer with a light fragrance. These flowers are extremely beautiful. The foliage is a dark green. 'Hartlage Wine' matures to 6-8 ft.
