Escambia River is a selected form of Rhododendron austrinum (Florida azalea) originating from the Escambia River region of northwest Florida and Alabama. It produces fragrant, trumpet-shaped blooms in spring that range from soft orange to peach and apricot tones, creating a lighter, more natural look than brighter selections like ‘Florida Flame’. This upright, multi-stemmed shrub typically reaches 6–10 feet tall at maturity and grows best in light shade with acidic, well-drained soil. It is valued for its early-season flowers, wildlife appeal, and strong performance in native and woodland landscapes.
