Rhododendron × ‘Verdie Sommerville’ is an extremely rare and hard-to-find selection from renowned collector and breeder Earl Sommerville. 'Verdie Sommerville' is a true showstopper among deciduous azaleas. Each spring, deep red buds open into abundant clusters of multicolored blooms in glowing shades of yellow, red, orange, and peach, highlighted by a striking golden-yellow upper petal. This exceptional azalea is the result of a cross between our native Rhododendron flammeum and Rhododendron ‘Strawberry Ice,’ blending Southern native genetics with refined English beauty.  Vigorous yet well-behaved,  ‘Verdie Sommerville’ typically reaches approximately 5–7 ft tall and wide in 10 years.
