Acer palmatum 'Manyo no sato'
Chartreuse Variegated
Japanese Maple

Zones 5-9

'Manyo no sato' is an introduction of Japanese maple that was introduced in Japan in 1993 and made popular by Yutaka Tunaka at Tsukasa Maple in Tokyo-to. It is a photographer's delight to photograph this beauty and I'm sure it will be your most popular photos on Instagram. 'Manyo no sato' leafs out in the early spring as a darker purple red with chartreuse variegation. The purple red color fades to a mauve red, then to a green in full sun during the summer in the south. 'Manyo no sato' turns to bright orange to red in the autumn. 'Manyo no sato' means "The Village of a 1,000 Leafs". 'Manyo no sato' may reach 8 ft tall by 6 ft wide in 10 years. Better act fast before they are gone!

Manyo review..

Plant arrived last month in excellent condition. Was past its Spring beauty, but an outstanding, healthy plant.
I potted up to a larger pot, 3 weeks after receiving...kept him out of direct sun, and will introduce the sun soon.
Moving forward, I will move-up my maples in the fall. They had barely growing into the 1 gal they arrives in... Ball was still in the shape of a liner.

Mango no sato

I received this tree with its unusual varigation. I have it in a pot so I can adjust its sun and shade for the best results. The plant is healthy and vigorous. Thank you!

Betcha can't buy just one!

I've had my eye on this one for awhile because of it's unique color and leaves. I was very pleased when I received it, so of course, I ordered another. I always buy more than one of things I really like, sooner or later.😉. Know what I mean?

Grows slowly

A truly unique variegation in the leaves, and in some ways this doesn't even look like a japanese maple. I've had this tree 3 years and it has grown very little, so perhaps try in a pot first to get it to the right place. Mine is in morning full sun and into shade by 1pm in zone 7B - this may be too much sun actually. Like Geisha Gone Wild, this tree stands out from most others for its special leaf color variation. Try getting it near something yellow or conifer blue. I have mine next to distylium blue cascade. Be patient as its gets going because it is so unique. If you do not like limey colors, I'd avoid it, because that is a definite element.
