Rare Wildfire Coral Bark Winter Interest Japanese Maple

Perhaps one of the most aptly named maples, 'Wild Fire' is sure to light up the garden. It has small chartreuse green leaves which turn to bright golden yellows to orange in the fall. The real interest in this tree lies in its 'winter interest'.

The bark on 'Wild Fire' is noted for having two primary tones. Toward the base of the tree, the bark is bright golden yellow to golden orange. The golden yellows infuse into orange which infuse to colors of bright fiery red on the outer branches. The tree is a spectrum of color of yellows to reds. 'Wild Fire' is a brand new selection that is projected to reach 15 ft in 20 years. 'Wild Fire' was found by one of our good friends, Jason Stevens.

Shipped in a box that was too small. The branches are all growing to one side like it was growing for a long time in a space where it was reaching for the sun. The trunk was coming out of the pot straight for about six inches and then took a 45 degree turn. It’s about six feet high so it’s very crooked. I potted it up in a bigger pot and planted it so it’s straight. Hope it works. The plant is healthy and is what I ordered. Too bad it was grown badly.

Wildfire really surprised me. Two years old now from the 1 gallon and its now 6 Feet tall. Its surprisingly heat tolerant for the Long Beach area.
Color changing leaves and bark. I look forward to having a specimen size one someday.
