Picea pungens 'Continental', commonly known as the Continental Blue Spruce, is a cultivar of the Colorado Blue Spruce. This variety is celebrated for its striking blue-green needles, which retain their vibrant color throughout the year. The needles are short, stiff, and possess a distinctive blue hue, providing a bold contrast in landscapes. The tree features a pyramidal shape with a dense, conical crown. Compared to other blue spruces, 'Continental' is relatively compact, reaching a height of about 15-20 ft and a width of 8-15 ft, making it an excellent choice for smaller gardens and landscapes.. Its manageable size and attractive blue foliage make it a favored option for ornamental planting, including use as a specimen tree, in garden beds, or even in containers. Additionally, it works well as a small evergreen hedge.
