Rare Hoshi yadori Variegated Batwing Maple

Zones 5-9

'Hoshi yadori’ is one of the most amazing selections of batwing maples. In the spring, the leaves leaf out with a reddish tint. As the spring progresses, the yellow starlike and speckled variegation becomes prominent on these large dark green leaves. The contrast between the bright yellow and dark green will make you fall in love with this batwing maple. ‘Hoshi yadori’ turns to bright yellow in the fall. ‘Hoshi yadori’ forms a nice upright tree reaching 8-10 ft in height in 15 years.

Beautiful Batwing

I wanted an Usugumo Batwing maple but was unavailable. So I opted for this one (Acer Pictum: Hoshi Yadori) and I have been pleasantly surprised at how much I have fallen in love with this tree. It is in its first year with me, but so far it has proven vigorous and handsome. Love the dark green, batwing leaves and the way it forms an umbrella canopy. I hope to get a larger version in the spring, but if not, I will get another small one. Difficult to find apparently.
