Acer palmatum 'Oto hime'

Dwarf Japanese Maple

Zones 5-9

‘Oto hime’ is a small compact dwarf Japanese maple maple with small green leaves. The habit is more flat and toadstool-like. Dr. Creech of SFA Gardens says these types have become a favorite of his. The dense multi-branched shapes lend well to bonsai training. The lateral growth make this short Japanese maple excellent for containers. ‘Oto hime’ may reach 3 ft in height by 5 ft in width in 10 years. Make sure to give ‘Oto hime’ protection from the hot afternoon sun in zone 8 and 9. Fall color on ‘Otohime’ can range from yellow to orange or even red.

Limited Quantities Available !! As we have over a thousand cultivars of Japanese maples, we often do not have many of each cultivar. We recommend that you buy the Japanese maples you want immediately as we often sell out of certain selections.

Oto hime

I got a 2 gallon plant and it is full and beautiful. The spring color is kind of peach color. I planted it on the edge of my shade pollinator garden. Mr. Maple does a great job with shipping because the plant is contained in a box within a box and there is no damage. I am one state away in TN and I receive them next day via Fed Ex

I’m in zone 8 and planted my Oto Hiem in my back yard south of the house. It gets early afternoon full sun and filtered late afternoon sun. Normally it only gets watered with the lawn sprinklers. Only in the hottest & dry summer days do I do supplemental hand watering. I planted in April of 2018 from a 1 gal pot. Now (summer of 2023) it’s 5 ft wide and just 2 1/2 ft tall. Very dense beautiful foliage. It requires only minimal pruning…it just knows how to grow.
My favorite dwarf!
